Can one divorcing parent be forced to pay school fees?

Yes, particularly if school fees can be afforded from income. However, some parents are unable to afford to pay school fees from surplus income. After a divorce, difficult decisions often have to be made in order to cover the cost of school fees. Parents may need to re-evaluate their financial situation and make compromises by releasing capital from existing assets or using surplus income in order to afford the school fees. In some situations, although disruption to a child’s routine is preferably avoided, a child may need to move schools to somewhere more affordable.
